Meta Muse: what merchants are saying in month one
We read 53 merchant, agency and advertiser reactions to Muse in its first month: 14 positive, 24 wary, 15 negative, and not one first-hand report of a Muse order in a Shopify admin.

Muse, the personal agent Meta launched on 8 September 2026 (not Muse Spark, the model, or Muse Image, the image model), has been in Shopify admins for nearly three weeks. We read everything merchants, agencies and advertisers have said about it in public. The mood is wary, the worries are specific, and the one thing nobody has posted is an order.
Last updated: 26 September 2026. This is a rolling tracker: we refresh the count and the quotes as the conversation moves.
Merchants are wary. Of 53 posts, comments and articles we read by 26 September 2026, 14 were positive, 24 wary and 15 negative. No merchant has publicly reported a Muse order yet. The worries: default-on, single-use cards, pixels, Meta's fee.
The count, and the order nobody has seen
The 30 Reddit items come from the Arctic Shift public archive, since Reddit blocks our fetches; the other 23 are agency, newsletter, LinkedIn, X and press items with public permalinks. The Amazon-seller subreddits and the Shopify Community forum had nothing (our read, 26 September 2026).
The headline finding is an absence. Three weeks after Shopify said "Shopify merchants are already live" (Shopify on X, 8 September 2026), not one merchant has posted a screenshot, an order number or a line in a weekly report showing a Muse order. Every description of one traces back to the Shopify Help Center or an agency paraphrasing it. The r/shopify thread that asked directly, "Is Muse giving you any traffic?" (15 September 2026), was removed by automoderation, unanswered. What the surface is, and who can reach it, is on Meta AI and Muse for brands.
Four worries, in merchants' words
Default-on and the opt-out
blessyourheart10, who sells art on Shopify, wrote on r/shopify (12 September 2026): "Anyone else annoyed that we got an email saying your shop now selling on the stupid Meta AI? I had already turned off the others, but Meta was a whole separate button! I want the option to opt in, not to have to work to opt out."
The switch exists. Shopify's Help Center (read 26 September 2026) documents two, "Shopify Catalog access" and "Direct checkout", under Sales channels > Agentic > Meta once "Allow Shopify to manage for me" is off. The complaint is about consent, and a subscription merchant made the same point: "Your products are in there whether you looked or not" (BaptisteNo, r/ShopifyeCommerce, 21 September 2026). Our merchant checklist walks the admin path.
Single-use cards and subscriptions
BaptisteNo's thread, "Meta's Muse is a disaster if you sell subscriptions" (r/ShopifyeCommerce, 21 September 2026), reasons from Stripe's documentation: "The first payment clears and the next one declines, so you paid full CAC for a single order and your churn numbers are going to blame your product."
Two facts sit against this. Stripe does issue "a single-use virtual card scoped to the approved purchase" outside businesses that accept Link (Stripe newsroom, 8 September 2026). But Shopify's direct checkout already excludes "Subscriptions, Product bundles, Customizable products, B2B-only products" (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026). So the renewal scenario is reasoning, not an observed failure, and applies only to orders the agent places at your own storefront with a one-time card. The rails are in how Muse pays.
Pixels and measurement
Shopify is explicit: "Google Analytics and custom pixels won't fire in Meta's direct checkout. The checkout fires only server-to-server pixels (started, completed)" (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026). Matt Naughton of Naughton & Bird (21 September 2026) translated it: "with Meta's direct checkout they can pay without your storefront loading at all, so those orders arrive in your Shopify admin attributed to Meta and never show up in your browser analytics."
Common Thread Collective (22 September 2026): "Watch your attribution. Muse-driven purchases will look strange in last-click reporting." That gap is why the MyMuse case study starts from GA4 rather than from the agent surface, and why orders that never reach your analytics need their own reporting line.
Meta's fee
At Connect, Zuckerberg said: "We believe that Muse will make you money. We're standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions" (23 September 2026, via Medianama 24 September 2026). No rate, no date, no scope, and no primary source says who pays it. Shopify's position today: "There are no fees associated with selling in Meta's direct checkout. You pay only your standard payment processing fees" (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026).
The line lands because of the precedent: OpenAI charged Shopify merchants "a 4% fee on sales made through ChatGPT checkout" (The Information via PYMNTS, 21 January 2026) and retired it in March (CNBC, 24 March 2026). Farhad Divecha, Group CEO of AccuraCast, told Digiday (25 September 2026): "Advertising to ensure our brand is the one that gets picked by Muse to complete a task would be critical to get business."
The enthusiasm, in their words
Most of the 14 positive items came from people who used Muse, not people who received the email. sremex on r/smallbusiness (23 September 2026): "After using it for about 24 hours, I am honestly pretty impressed with what it can do." Scot Wingo of Retailgentic (15 September 2026): "Muse is the real standout."
Even the enthusiasm comes with conditions. amitabhverma's r/PPC post (21 September 2026) is the most practical line in the set: "Treat agentic shopping as a permissioned channel. Map which retailers allow third-party agents, require clear identification in your own tools, and keep a direct-checkout path ready so campaigns do not break overnight." That post reacts to the Amazon block, covered in what the Amazon block means for brands.
The Meta ads blame, filed as unevidenced
The negative cluster's other half, after the default-on anger above, lives on r/FacebookAds, where advertisers attribute performance drops to Muse. tobiasdzw (14 September 2026): "Meta released Muse on Sept 8. Must be correlated tk that. I went from 3.2% CVR to 1.8% this week." havrydesign (24 September 2026): "I feel like Meta's main focus right now is their Muse app."
We file these as unevidenced. Each is a correlation with a launch date; nothing ties the drop to Muse rather than ordinary week-to-week variance. Meta says "your conversations are not shared with Meta's ad systems" (ai.meta.com/muse, read 26 September 2026) and has announced no ad placement inside Muse. The quotes stay in the tracker because if a placement launches, this is where the first reports will appear.
What to do this week
| Decision | Where | Why now |
|---|---|---|
| Choose, on purpose, whether direct checkout stays on | Sales channels > Agentic > Meta | The switch exists; the complaint is about not being asked |
| Add "Meta" as a line in your weekly order report | Shopify admin, sales by channel | So a zero stays visible |
| Tell the paid team pixels will not fire | Before the first order | Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026 |
| Make your own pages and checkout finishable by an agent | The open-web path | See Enable Agentic Checkout |
Where Tru Commerce fits
We have run this on Gray Porter and a group of US DTC brands: we made the product pages and checkout readable and finishable by an agent, then placed a real Muse order on the store. Gray Porter was also submitted to Meta's Muse connector directory on 22 September 2026 and is awaiting Meta's review. Our MCP server connects from Muse; the setup is documented so you can connect Tru Commerce from Muse. If you want the Meta line in your order report to stop reading zero, book a demo.
FAQ
Sales channels > Agentic, turn off "Allow Shopify to manage for me", open Meta, toggle "Shopify Catalog access" or "Direct checkout", save. Catalog removal can take up to 7 days (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026).
Shopify says orders placed on Meta surfaces are attributed to Meta and display like any other channel (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026). No merchant has publicly reported one as of 26 September 2026.
Not through direct checkout, which excludes subscriptions, bundles, customizable and B2B-only products (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026). The Reddit renewal-failure worry is one merchant's reasoning, not an observed failure.
Advertisers on r/FacebookAds report drops since 8 September 2026 and blame Muse; none has posted evidence. Meta says Muse conversations are not shared with its ad systems and has announced no ad placement inside Muse.
No browser pixel does. Google Analytics and custom pixels won't fire in Meta's direct checkout; only server-to-server pixels for checkout started and completed do (Shopify Help Center, read 26 September 2026).

Meta Muse in India: when it lands, what it will meet
Meta Muse is live in the US and Canada, not India, with no date or waitlist. A launch here will meet CERT-In's human-in-the-loop line, NPCI's paused agent protocol and two conflicting UPI caps. What Indian D2C brands should do now.

How Meta Muse shops: what is documented and what is guessed
Meta has published nothing on how Muse ranks products. Here is the line between what Meta, Shopify, OpenAI and Google confirm, what first-hand tests saw (3 of 7 deal prompts worked), and which claims are vendor inference.

Meta Muse connectors: what to build, how to submit
Meta opened Muse to outside connectors on 18 September 2026 and counted over 2,000 submissions within days. The two connector classes in Meta's words, the three-step submission, and what a merchant connector should carry that Shopify Catalog does not.
