What powers it
How Microsoft Copilot works
Copilot loads express payment methods (Shop Pay, Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay) for Shopify stores, spotted by Juozas Kaziukėnas in July 2026, and Shopify's documentation lists Copilot among the channels that can support a Shopify-powered direct checkout (via Retailgentic, August 2026). The recommendation and the order can now happen in the same assistant.
Copilot grounds heavily on Bing. Brands that optimised only for Google frequently have thin or stale Bing coverage - and therefore no path into Copilot answers at all.
Microsoft's merchant feed supplies price, availability and attributes. A missing or low-quality feed limits what Copilot can confidently say about your products.
Copilot meets people mid-task in Edge, Windows and Office. Answers skew practical and comparison-led, which rewards clear specification and use-case content.
Microsoft supports instant index submission, so corrections propagate in hours rather than weeks. It is the fastest feedback cycle of any surface we track.

Microsoft Advertising's guide to AI shopping tells retailers to upgrade and enrich the catalog, implement UCP, upload the complete feed to Copilot Merchant Center and use Clarity to understand behaviour. Partly. The content principles are shared, but Copilot depends on Bing indexing and Microsoft Merchant Center in a way ChatGPT does not. Brands that ignored Bing usually have a real, fixable gap here.
