Direct Offers
Also known as: Google Direct Offers
Google's AI-native ad unit inside Gemini and AI Overviews — the agentic-era replacement for Shopping ads. Announced at NRF 2026.
Direct Offers is Google's AI-native paid placement product. Where Google Shopping ads appear in the Shopping tab and product carousels of traditional search, Direct Offers appear inside AI-generated answers in Gemini and AI Overviews.
The mechanic: shoppers ask a shopping question. Gemini or AI Overviews generates an answer. Direct Offers are integrated into the answer as promoted product cards or inline mentions — visibly labeled as sponsored but blended into the response rather than segregated in an ads block.
Early ROI data is favorable: 2-4× the ROAS of legacy Google Shopping ads for well-matched audiences. Category is small (few advertisers competing), rates are still calibrating; expect compression as more brands enter.
For brands, Direct Offers is worth testing now with 20-30% of Shopping Products budget in one category. Early-mover pricing is real. Once competition arrives, the arbitrage compresses.
